Bill Wallis Trophy & Results Update

Despite a weather forecast threatening wind and cloud with the possibility of showers, conditions were ideal for hungry fish and the 4th 2018/2019 Rhyll Phillip Island Angling Club fishing competition, held over the 24th/25th of November.  Supported by the club and island community, the competition concluded on Sunday evening with the presentation of awards to a gathering of participants, families and friends.

Indeed, the clouds had a silver lining and enthusiasts were rewarded with some massive fish as they competed for the 15th Bill Wallis Memorial Trophy, awarded for the aggregate of units from the weight and points categories.  Steve Bland, local fish whisperer and Club Captain, was victorious this year and was presented with the trophy for accumulating 6,615 units for an impressive Snapper.

Again, a variety of eligible species, comprising 39 fish and 3 sharks, were weighed in as the weather improved and the annual competition progressed.  The Squidgie Mixed Bag Points competition was won by Denver Firth, weighing in 3 fish totalling 60 points.  The Junior Weight competition was won by Heath Womersley, weighing in a Trevally of 535 grams.

The Senior Heaviest Weight Competition was won by Steve Bland, presenting a monster Snapper weighing 6,615 grams, and Yvette Rowe who continued to impress everyone with a Snapper weighing 5,005 grams.  The Senior Points Competition was won by husband and wife team, Rick DiFuccio and Mary DiFuccio, each weighing in King George Whiting worth 1,764 points (630 grams) and 1,204 points (430 grams), respectively.  The Senior Shark Competition was won by John Reid, with a 7 Gill Shark weighing 15,200 grams, and the Secret Weight Competition was won by Sam Orr, weighing in a Trevally of 1,070 grams (secret weight 1,323 grams).
