December 8-9th, 2018 Competition

With summer upon us, the lead-up to the 5th 2018/2019 Rhyll Phillip Island Angling Club fishing competition, saw some very promising catches.  Club Treasurer, Dave Fusinato, waved a bounty of Snapper (7.8 kg and 5.5 kg) to accentuate the riches that lurk in Western Port.  Also setting a great example, reigning Junior Club Champion, Heath Womersley, released a massive Dusky Flathead that was too big to keep, exceeding the maximum legal size of 55cm.  The balmy weather over the 8th/9th of December did not disappoint and the variety of eligible species weighed in, comprising 50 fish and 3 sharks, were acknowledged and discussed by enthusiasts.  The post competition presentation at the Clubroom welcomed the festive season and was enjoyed by the Phillip Island community, made up of members, friends, family and holiday makers.

Affirming the enthusiasm of youngsters for fishing, the Squidgie Mixed Bag Points competition was won by Denver Firth, weighing in 4 fish totalling 65 points.  Congratulations also to Drew Fusinato with 1 fish/20 points and Maya Womersley with 1 fish/20 points.

Not to be outdone by other competitors, Daisy Fusinato, weighed in a feisty 500g Snapper to win the Junior Weight competition.  The Junior Points competition was won by Heath Womersley, weighing in a majestic King George Whiting worth 756 points (270 grams).

The Senior Heaviest Weight Competition was won by Don Rowe, with a Snapper weighing 3,470 grams, and Debra Orr with a Snapper weighing 1,035 grams.  The Senior Points Competition was won by Robert Cook, with a King George Whiting worth 1,974 points (705 grams), and Debra Orr, with a King George Whiting worth 1,036 points (370 grams).  Don Rowe taught a lesson, winning the Senior Shark Competition with a School Shark weighing 12,250 grams, and the Secret Weight Competition was won by Duncan Firth, weighing in a Barracouta of 320 grams (secret weight 332 grams).
