President’s Opening Message 2019

Welcome to the Rhyll Phillip Island Angling Club’s 2019/2020 fishing competition!

Our first competition weekend is scheduled for the 21st/22nd of September and we’re looking forward to longer days and favourable conditions.  The competition will test anglers, equipment and good fortune, spanning Spring, Summer and Autumn.  All eligible fish weighed in must be caught within the boundaries of the map displayed in the club room.

The general rule of thumb is that you need to present your fish to either of the Weigh In Masters (Sam Orr and Norm Trickey) at the club room, between 4:30 and 5:30 pm on each day of the competition weekend.  Remember that each eligible fish must be weighed in by the person who caught the fish, so if you are fishing with others, please make sure that you snip or clip the tail (or a fin) of your fish to identify your catch.  Our Club Captain, Steve Bland and the Weigh In Masters will be on hand to manage any anomalies.

With prizes for “Weight”, “Points”, “Shark” and “Secret Weight” it doesn’t matter if you fish from land or water, the bay or the sea, or even the size of your boat, a competition-worthy fish may lurk near your hook.  Please familiarise yourself with the latest rules that are available on the website and in the club room.  If you haven’t weighed in a fish previously, irrespective of age or experience, I encourage you to participate this season.

At our recent Annual General Meeting the committee for this year was elected. The committee comprises:

President – Albert Abram

Vice President – Len Bates

Vice President – Norm Trickey

Treasurer – Dave Fusinato

Secretary – Jill Trickey

Committee Members:

Gerry Gibb, Peter Kirwan, Noel Macklin, Daniel McCausland, Sam Orr, Len Petch, and Mick Toovey.

On behalf of all members, I would like to thank Daniel for his vision and leadership as the outgoing President and I look forward to his mentoring as he continues to serve on the committee.  The dedication and enthusiasm of the committee and volunteers is clearly a reflection of Daniel’s passion for the club.  We also welcome Gerry Gibb to the committee and thank John Duthie for his assistance and valuable insights.

Enclosed are the Competition Dates for 2019/2020 and the Angling Competition Rules and Regulations.

We will continue to inform members of upcoming news and events via email and through our website www.rpiac.com.

Fishing advice is always available at the club room, sometimes it helps.  We look forward to seeing you at the club.  In the spirit of healthy competition, I wish everyone “tight lines” and look forward to learning of your success.

President: Albert Abram
